Vancouver Family Photographer | Letters to Our Daughters, September
Letters to our Daughters. September is for E.
My little big girl, my baby sunshine.
In the morning, when the sun awakes, I go into your room and rub your back and whisper:
“Good morning, sunshine, my baby sunshine”.
And you sleepily reply, “Good morning, big sunshine”, and cuddle into me.
That is a pretty lovely way to start the day. It’s our ritual, morning kisses and hugs, and those soft-hearted words.
You’ve grown up so much over this summer. Our conversations have lengthened. There is such enjoyment and understanding in our heart-to-heart exchanges. Your brave and determined heart has shone through when trying new things; for instance, you’ve now mastered biking. It brings such pride when I hear you ask to try things that you were once afraid to do. It makes me smile so much to hear the pride in your heart when you show me what you can do. And then there are moments when I overhear you guiding your baby sister so gently, doing all the things the way I taught you. Or when you tell her not to disturb me while I take a power nap. Or when you say you want to keep giving to the poor for Christmas too, even if it’s not your birthday. Or when you say sorry for being frustrated and angry. That heart; it dwarfs mine.
Then yesterday, after we exchanged our morning sunshine hugs and kisses, you ran down to the playroom and insisted that I remain in my bedroom until you are ready to share. Finally, you came upstairs and showed me another one of your sweet card creations. But this one humbled me. As you read the card, looking up at me with the light in your eyes, I feel your love fill my body, my soul.
“Mom yur a majek mom iwl lov yo foevr”.
This is magic. You are magic. My magic.
This project is one that I hold dear to my heart. It’s a project I do, not only for myself, but for my girls. The ones who will hopefully be reading (and want to read) this when they are older, or if they are lucky, mothers themselves. I hope the words that I share with them today will always bring them back to a place of unconditional love, especially during times of need.
Now please click on over to my fellow blog circle contributor, Jennifer Jones, and her letter for September, and keep reading through for the beautiful words and images!
