Vancouver Family Photographer | 10 on 10, September 5th at Porteau Cove
Here on the west coast, we are faced with a BC Teacher Federation strike action with the provincial government. It’s September, and there is no school. The forecast called for no rain for this weekend in September and we’ve long heard from other campers that Porteau Cove is the place to be. The girls had such a great time in Oregon this past August, that we thought, why the hell not go again, one last time, before the weather turns cold and wet. So Friday night, we booked a site, and told our girls that it’ll be a Surprise Sunday. I’m pretty sure Elliotte asked about a million times where we are going and what its is going to be, only to be met with “you’ll just have to wait and see”.
We packed up the car the night before and on Sunday morning hit the highway and headed north along the Sea to Sky. It is a stunning drive as we meander along the cliffside of Howe Sound, the Northshore mountains joining the Garibaldi range to the east and the Tantalus Range to the west, just across the Sound. We stopped in at Britannia Mine and you can imagine my delight to be surrounded by rocks and minerals AND ore. I’m sure I turned into a kid on that underground train ride. I could hang out there all afternoon, playing with the drill core and looking at the mineral specimens for display. AND you can imagine my dismay when my girls picked up sodalite and cracked quartz for gemstones instead of the beautiful iridescence of bornite. Seriously people!
We did a quick grocery run for dinner before making camp for the evening. The tide was just at its highest when we were getting settled, but it didn’t stop the girls from going in waist high into the cool ocean water. We pulled them out of the water just in time to dry up, have a post-dinner snack, and watch this absolutely amazing sunset – the sky is on fire. Now this is a great way to end a family day.
Now please head over to check out my fellow BC’er, the incredibly talented Kyla from Pinball Photography, to see what her highlight reel is for August!
