Vancouver Family Photographer | Day in the Life with Lorraine & Kavie

Day in the Life sessions. It doesn't get more authentic than that. You are truly entrenched in a family's everyday goings on when you photograph them. Any awareness they have for you falls away and life in front of the camera transforms into life behind the scenes, just as it is - imperfectly perfect.

Lorraine and Kavie generously opened up their home and shared one of their last summer Saturdays with me. It was 6am, the crack of dawn. Their kids were up...sleeping in? What's that about? The only way to prolong some semblance of rest is to have some cuddles in bed, which quickly turned to tickle fights and fits of giggles. Home life went into full swing - breakfast, play, more play, a treat to a performance by the great Keshin and his guitar and microphone, and watching Kavie and Anisa play in their fairy voices (you should hear Kavie!). At work, Lorraine's a star (as one-half of the children's music duo, Bobs & Lolo), but at home, she sits back and takes in the beauty and chaos of her family life with gratitude and reflection.

When I asked Lorraine and Kavie what they want to remember about their everyday, they talked about the moments that convey how much their children need them right now and the ones that seem mundane to them, but are so important to their littles. Like Keshin and Daddy morning walks with Keiah, and the way he insists on assuming responsibility for carrying his pup's poop. There is always beauty and humour in all the little things, especially when we see life through their eyes.

Our session brought us to the Saturday Farmers' Market, the park and playground, and ended with a rather long walk home that involved some creative juggling of little people and bikes. I am grateful for families like Lorraine and Kavie, who can see the value of family photography that represent this significant and transformative time of parenthood. In her article featured in The Good Mother Project, Lorraine shared something that I really resonated with: "Motherhood is hard....my time is shared, split, and stretched, and I wouldn't change it for anything". I hope this session will always remind you of that. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I would love to capture your unique everyday life, just as you are, and preserve those memories for days when they start to fade. So get in touch and we can start chatting about what’s important to you and your family to remember, years from now.
