Vancouver Family Photos | A Photographer's Day in the Life Documentary

Ok, let's talk vulnerability. I am not referring to that feeling where we feel open to harm, I am talking about the kind of vulnerability that requires us to stare a little longer at ourselves in the mirror and really see who we are right now. Not how we look (well, there is always that), but who we are as a whole. It can get a little uncomfortable right?

Family documentary photography is kind of like that. The thought of opening up your home, your ways of communicating within your relationships, your idiosyncrasies - it is uncomfortable! What will the photographer find that day? What will they see? Throw in our own worst critic and our perception of the outcome could all go to shit.

Suffice to say, it takes an enormously brave soul to say yes to family photos this way. It is a person that, despite apprehension and doubt about the end product, is ready to see themselves and their reality through another person's lens. No sugarcoating.

Leah, I loved seeing your reality on this snowmageddon day. We never get this much snow and I am so glad we decided to go for it anyhow. I had such fond memories of this neighbourhood during my university days and it is so wonderful to be able to experience it through Dan's and your eyes. I mean look at the role models Noah has - you two are people who try and maintain the essence of the community, who look out for neighbours, who reach out to help the elderly, who bring music and simple fun into your daily lives.

So to your own nervous critic, I hope you tell her that these photos show so much more than what she appears to be because I see a woman that is brave, kind, hopeful and unapologetic. Thank you so much for asking me to do this for you.
