Vancouver Newborn Photographer | The Smallest Thing

"Sometimes the smallest thing takes up the most room in your heart." ~Winnie the Pooh.

Storytelling sessions have my heart. There is something so raw and honest about them. The story of each image is woven together to make up a more robust picture, a tale of this time in your life. Each image has a voice, but together they speak volumes louder. I had the wonderful chance to photograph my beautiful friends, Lisa and Landon and their little girl Audrey, just last fall. So when they agreed to a storytelling session to document this special time of settling in at home with their newborn baby boy, I felt so incredibly grateful to be able to do this for them. This is the tale of Henry Edward Folz. A small 5 lbs 4 oz package born on August 14, 2014; that afternoon, he stole their hearts.

Sleep, wake, change, nurse, bottle, burp, play, bath, sleep. On repeat. Life with a newborn is rather predictable, especially the second go around. But something is different - the experience of a previous baby allows for the stress of the unknown so constant for a first-time parent to melt away. The parents can really enjoy and soak in and be smitten by their second. No, it doesn't get less exhausting to figure out a routine with an extra person but Lisa and Landon overcame their lack of sleep with the appreciation for their newly defined family of four. They are determined to keep their attention for Audrey as they adjust. As Lisa nurses, Landon plays with Audrey. As Landon takes over burping, Lisa reads to her. As for Audrey, she's already saying, "he's MY baby brother". She's just two but the role of a big sister is so clear to her and she takes it seriously, pouring kisses and gently stroking his hand, before she returns to her princess dresses and dancing with her (dad) Prince Charming. It's a lovely ebb and flow of events to witness and I say, they are settling in just wonderfully! This life of theirs, at this moment, is perfection and sweetness, defined.
