We are sometimes so wrapped up in planning the perfect birth and wanting the ideal outcome that we forget it is a journey that started long ago, and not at the first contraction, or loss of mucus plug, or breaking of waters. For some, the journey began with the challenges of creating a life. The heartbreak of failed attempts punctuated by hope, finally culminating in success. This is when waiting with bated breath begins, counting down the weeks, then the days. Birth becomes part of this longer journey, and at its pinnacle, we will remember what we went through to get here. This is what will get us through to the end, with all the strength we can muster to push away every contraction and back pain , until we meet our new love, as he takes his first breath.
