I got this email the other day. It's from a friend, Carly, who turned out to be my dream client. She shared the news of her pregnancy (woohoo!!!), and asked if I could capture some moments for her now before baby came, and also some time after birth, when her mom would be visiting. Yes, it's not different than other inquiries, but as our correspondence continued, I did a little happy dance in my head to some things that she wrote, and I'd like to share them with you.
"When it comes to these sort of memories it's always nice to work with someone you already know". If you've booked a session with me, you'd know that I send a pretty in-depth questionnaire. It's because I'd like to get to know my families REALLY well. But when you're already friends, it's a sweet sweet bonus! And when a friend hires you, it's a HUGE compliment.
"I did have a look at your website and really liked the casual style in your photographs. Neither my partner or I are big on posing for photos". What?! No posing? Well then, I'm totally your girl!
Then she delivers the icing on the cake when she came up with this idea for her maternity session. "There is a cafe nearby that Jesse and I go to most weekends and it's kind of become 'our place'. I was wondering if doing a casual 'walk to the coffee shop, have a coffee' style shoot would be something you would be comfortable with?" Meaningful (and interesting!) location, check. Authentic routine, check. Love for bikes, check. Coffee, yes please!
Carly and Jesse, what else can I say, but THANK YOU to both of you for being down right awesome about this. Maternity sessions can be very posed (and beautiful!) but you've broken the mold by bringing to the table your own vision of what's important to capture at this time in your lives. Here are my very favourites of the two of you :).
